INVESTMENT OPTIONS
The Malta Residence and Visa Program is known as the MRVP and allows for investors to qualify for permanent residence status in Malta, providing they meet the required criteria.
Investors should also satisfy all of the below requirements:-
INVEST IN TO BOND
An investment in government bonds of EUR €250,000 to be retained for a minimum period of five years.
FINANCE OPTION: You may choose to finance this investment by leveraging a loan of the same amount for just EUR €75,000. A non-refundable government contribution of EUR €30,000 (EUR €5,500 of which is an advance government administrative fee).
PURCHASE OF PROPERTY
A property purchase of EUR €320,000 (EUR €270,000 in South Malta or Gozo), OR a property lease of EUR €12,000 per annum (EUR €10,000 in South Malta or Gozo).
GOVERNMENT CONTRIBUTION
A non-refundable government contribution of EUR €30,000 (EUR €5,500 of which is an advance government administrative fee).
Other Required Criteria:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have an annual income of not less than EUR €100,000 arising outside of Malta, or has in his possession a capital of not less than EUR €500,000.
- Have a stable, regular resource of funds sufficient to maintain him/herself and any of his/her dependants.
- Be in good health.
- Have a clean criminal record.

TIME REQUIREMENTS
To obtain a visa or residency in Malta, the required length of stay depends on the type of visa or residency program you are applying for. Here are the general residency requirements for various visa types:
- Malta Permanent Residency Program (MPRP):
- Residency Requirement: There is no minimum stay requirement. You can be a resident without needing to spend a specific number of days in Malta each year. However, you need to maintain the property and other investment requirements.
- Malta Global Residence Program (GRP):
- Residency Requirement: There is no strict residency requirement, but you are required to spend at least 183 days outside of Malta each year to maintain your non-tax resident status.
- Malta Citizenship by Naturalization:
- If you want to acquire Maltese citizenship through naturalization, you generally need to live in Malta for at least 5 years.
- Malta Citizenship by Investment (Exceptional Services by Direct Investment):
- Through the citizenship by investment program, you can apply for Maltese citizenship after:
- 12 months of residency for the fast-track option.
- 36 months of residency for the standard track.
During this period, you must demonstrate a genuine link to Malta, such as renting or owning property, paying taxes, and having an active presence.
